Evaluation questions to ask related to appearance:
  • Is there a pattern the eye can follow in viewing the exhibit, or are materials just pasted on with no pattern in mind?  The design should take the reader from one main point to the next.
  • Are the photos and materials neatly matted, with even borders?
  • Is there "white" space between items , so it doesn't look cramped?
  • Is the main heading only a title, or does it share information and focus the research topic?
  • Does the overall display set a mood or tone about the time period, or topic?
  • Does the background board reflect something about the theme, or topic

  • Are the materials in front arranged and identified attractively?
Comparing exhibits
  • Based on appearance only, which of these two exhibits is visually more attractive?
  • Besides the visual display what else will the judges take into consideration?
  • Look at the following exhibits and determine which seem to be the most carefully crafted, and interesting to view.
