
UTAH GLCI GOALS/OBJECTIVES
- Identify critical elements needed to improve Utah's grazing lands including best management practices to:
---Improve and sustain forage production
---Improve water quality and quantity
---Properly manage forage harvest to protect the soil resource
- Encourage private landowners to become actively involved in the Coalition.
- Develop a stable funding source to support activities of the Coalition and promote Agriculture Resource
Development Loans (ARDL) and other activities to improve grazing lands.
- Promote a long term research program to protect basic soil and plant resources and improve forage
productivity and harvest.
- Educate owners, managers, and general public on good, economically viable grazing management practices.
- Inform the general public about the benefits of well-managed grazing lands.
- Keep technical assistance program voluntary.
- Assure that personnel providing assistance are properly trained and educated in range and/or pasture
management.

UTAH STRATEGIC PLAN

Objective 1:
Identify critical elements to improve Utah grazing lands including sustainable management
practices to:
- Improve and sustain forage production,
- Improve water quality, and
- Improve soil and water conservation.
Actions
- Identify priority areas and the objectives of agencies involved in these areas.
- Promote better interdisciplinary understanding and identification of common interests among diverse groups. Foster
coordination and cooperation.
- Promote sharing of information and working together among coalitions focused on grazing land management.
- Assess training and education needs of the GLCI Coalition and others interested in benefits of grazing lands management.
- Promote sustainable riparian restoration and management.
- Promote coordination and sharing of rangeland data and monitoring results in usable terms.

Objective 2:
Encourage private landowners to become actively involved in GLCI.
Actions
- Encourage Soil Conservation District Supervisors to promote use of Coordinated Resource Management and
Planning to meet local needs.
- Obtain funding for promotion of local GLCI group formation and activities.
- Promote locally directed incentive programs, including all funding sources to improve grazing lands.

Objective 3:
Develop a stable funding source to support steering committee activities.
Actions
- Identify alternative funding sources.
- Educate and inform landowners about how to obtain implementation funds.

Objective 4:
Promote long term research and demonstration programs to protect basic soil and plant resources and
improve forage productivity and harvest.
Action
- Disseminate research and demonstration information to landowners.
- Highlight the multiple benefits of research and demonstration programs.
- Work with landowners to establish test plots and demonstrations on private lands.

Objective 5:
Inform landowners and managers about economically viable grazing management practices and the multiple
benefits of improved management.
Action
- Organize education activities that inform participants of sustainable management practices and their benefits.
- Inform landowners of potential economic benefits of wildlife on their property.
- Showcase grazing land management success stories through the media and at fairs, festivals and other local activities.
- Facilitate needed legislation related to solving grazing lands problems.

Objective 6:
Inform the general public about the benefits of well-managed grazing.
Action
- Identify and promote the public benefits of well-managed grazing.
