Adopt-A-Grandparent
Mission Statement
To reach out compassionately to the elderly who
are in need of our love, our help, and our friendship;
and in the process help ourselves.

Goals and Purpose:
Help students develop friendships with elderly folks.  Many people are afraid to talk with people who are different from themselves.  This is a good way to start overcoming those fears and to build friendships that will last throughout the years. Our purpose is to brighten the lives of grandparents by a companionship when other friends and family are unavailable.
Program Description:
We recruit volunteers and match them with the elderly in the community with whom they'll spend one hour a week.  We try to match up volunteers and grandparents by common interest or proximity of where they (students and grandparents) live.

Past Events:

Fall Quarter
Thanksgiving dinner with our grandparents: Served a thanksgiving dinner to all grandparents and volunteers who could come.  Gentlemen of the Court performed.
Christmas card: Made Christmas cards for our grandparents the week before finals.

Winter Quarter
Valentines Day Activity: Card and gift were picked up by volunteer and taken to grandparents.
Grandparent Talent Show: Students shared their talents with our grandparents and then we had refreshments and got to know one another better.

Spring Quarter
Super Activity:  End of the school year party with all grandparents and volunteers.
