Project Pals

Project Pals is a volunteer organization that receives funding from the United Way of Cache Valley. What Project Pals does is match children from the community who have special needs with a volunteer from Utah State University. It is a mentoring program that could best be compared to Big Brothers/ Big Sisters. The volunteer from the university meets with the child once a week for at least an hour and establishes a real friendship.
As a Project Pals volunteer you can go all kinds of places and do all kinds of things with the children. Once a month the entire program gets together for what is called a "super activity." At these activities we do something extra fun. In the past we have gone roller skating, to a USU basketball game, and even to visit Santa!
The Project Pals program is free of charge and available to all children between the ages of 6 and 16. We are specifically trying to help children who can use a friend that they can trust. Having been involved with Project Pals for three years has shown me what a difference one person can make with a child's self-esteem. Project Pals benefits the child involved and the volunteer.
