Students Together Ending Poverty (S.T.E.P.) is a national program that was organized in 1995. The Utah State S.T.E.P. chapter was organized in the fall of 1997.
Nationally, S.T.E.P. is working to create a national model program that reflects the needs and process of poor people by establishing partnerships between students and those most affected by poverty. S.T.E.P. provides education, skills, and training necessary to develop a new generation of student leadership in the anti-poverty movement. S.T.E.P. assists students on finding an approach to ending poverty that combines critical analysis, meaningful community service, advocacy, and direct action.
Some programs that the Utah State chapter of S.T.E.P. works on include: Trick or Treat for Cans, The Thanksgiving Food Drive, Sub for Santa, Poverty/Homeless Awareness Campaigns, Urban Plunge, Night Without a Home, and advocacy or lobbying efforts.
