Western Historical Quarterly Graduate Fellowship 2016--2017 Announcement
The University of Oklahoma is delighted to announce two new 2-year editorial fellowships at the new home of the Western Historical Quarterly. For either MA or PhD students, the first fellowship will be offered in 2016-2017. In addition to excellent training in writing and editing, fellows will be immersed in the scholarship of the broadest possible North American West, including the newest work in a dynamic field. Fellows will work closely with OU faculty to publish a traditional journal as well as new digital content.
The generous fellowship includes each year:
1) Cost of in or out-of-state tuition
2) 11 months of graduate stipend at $1400 per month $15, 400
3) Enhanced Fellowship (for PhD students) $5,000
(For MA Students ) $2,500
4) Funds to support travel to annual WHA meeting $1,429
Duties at the Western Historical Quarterly (WHQ) include 20 hours a week, beginning in August 2016. The editorial fellows will 1) assist the editor in selecting, preparing, and copyediting manuscripts; 2) assist in all facets of the book review process; and 3) help develop and manage digital content for the journal. The fellowship may be retained for a second year (2016-17) depending upon satisfactory progress toward the degree and acceptable completion of editorial assignments. During the summer of 2017, the editorial fellow will work 20 hours a week at the WHQ, leaving ample time for research.
All applicants must apply for admission to the MA or PhD program at OU. Applications require a statement of purpose and if applicants are interested in this fellowship, they should include in that statement a paragraph that addresses their preparation to work for a scholarly journal focusing on all aspects of the North American West. Applications must be submitted to http://history.ou.edu/graduate-program by December 1, 2015. Applicants will be notified by early 2016.
