SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

Unless otherwise stated all applicants:

  1. Must be admitted to Utah State University before applying
  2. Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA for undergraduates and
    a minimum 3.0 GPA for graduate students
  3. Must be enrolled at USU during the scholarship period
    for a minimum of 6 credit hours
  4. Will complete a goal statement that includes your financial need,
    your educational goals and how your education will benefit you and society

Specific scholarship requirements for each endownment are listed below and must be met in addition to the four general criteria listed above.

SECTION I:

These scholarships are open to both TRADITIONAL AND REENTRY STUDENTS

Scholarship Name Criteria
Wayne & Ione Spencer Bennion Fund Scholarships shall be awarded to any needy woman. Student level not specified.
T. Y. and Nan C. Booth Endowment Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate or graduate women students
Blue Sky Scholarship (Susan Grey) . Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate junior, senior, or graduate women majoring or minoring in the visual arts, and having an emphasis in painting, ceramics, photography, or two-dimensional art. Reentry or Traditional student.
Box Family Opportunity Award Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate or graduate students. traditional or reentry. Preference given to those who are (or who have been) in an abusive environment, who have a desire to break the cycle of violence, or who have been volunteers at CAPSA (or a similar organization).
Theodore W. Daniel Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate or graduate women either reentry or traditional 1) black women from the continent of Africa, 2) black women from the U.S., 3) women from any other foreign country, 4) reentry women from the U.S. or traditional student.
Ryan & Sonia Dupont Endowment Scholarships shall be awarded to 1) undergraduate women in Civil and Environmental Engineering, 2) undergraduate American minority male students studying Civil and Environmental Engineering, 3) undergraduate women in Engineering. Students must have a 3.5 or above GPA.
Jack & Sally Keller Endowed Scholarship Scholarship requires that the award be given to women students with financial need, especially single women who are heads of their households and who have minor dependents. Student level not specified.
St. John's Episcopal Church Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to female undergraduate or graduate students.
Estel L. and Leah Mouritsen Wright Scholarship Recipients must be USU women students. Student level not specified.

SECTION II:

This scholarship is open only for a TRADITIONAL FEMALE STUDENT

Scholarship Name Criteria
Stephanie Osborne Scholarship Scholarship shall be awarded to undergraduate traditional senior status women, 24 years of age or younger, single with no children. Must be a US citizen.

SECTION III:

These scholarships are open to REENTRY STUDENTS ONLY
(Reentry students are defined by USU as having a five year gap in their education at some point.)
Please note that Leah Dunford Parkinson Christensen Scholarship and the
Lundstrom/Mortar Board Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund scholarships
only require a 3 YEAR GAP.

Scholarship Name Criteria
Women's Center Advisory Board Scholarship Scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate reentry women or men students.
Neil L. & Cathy Anderson Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate or graduate reentry women students. Awards may also be given to students for emergency student-related needs, as determined by the director of the Women's Center and the scholarship committee.
Luna Robertson Brite Endowment Scholarships shall be awarded to senior or graduate reentry women, especially those majoring in fields related to teaching, counseling, psychology, or social work, and women having an interest in the area of exceptional (handicapped/gifted and talented) children.
William F. & Phyllis M. Campbell Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior reentry single parents women or men with a declared major. Students must have a 3.0 minimum GPA.
Dorothy V. Myers Carson Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate or graduate reentry women.
Leah Dunford Parkinson Christensen Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to reentry women or men with at least a three year gap in their education.
Carol Wennergren Clay Endowment Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate and graduate reentry women. 1 st priority will be given to reentry women. 2 nd priority will be given to undergraduate or graduate women.
Alta Crockett Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to u ndergraduate or graduate women. 1 st priority will be given to reentry women students.
Lucille Ballif Croft Scholarship in Women’s Center Preference shall be given in the following order: Reentry single parent women with children, reentry men or reentry women students. Recipients may be undergraduate or graduate reentry women students who are residents of Utah . Student level not specified.
Walter & Jane Dansie Endowment Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded with preference to reentry women. Student level not specified.
L.T. & Janet T. Dee Foundation Scholarship Endowment Scholarships shall be awarded to reentry students with personal integrity as determined by the selection committee.
Gloria T. Earl & Don C. Earl Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate reentry women.
Alice Fonnesbeck Gardner Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate or graduate reentry women. Consideration given to those majoring or minoring in fields related to business, English, math, and science education.
Linda F. and David L. Jeppesen Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate or graduate reentry women students.
Isabel Katana Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate or graduate reentry women. 1 st consideration given to applicants majoring in fields related to nursing, medicine, health care, or psychology.
Vera Carter Lewis Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to reentry undergraduate or graduate students. Student level not specified.
Lundstrom\Mortar Board Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund Scholarships shall be awarded to reentry undergraduate or graduate women with a 3-year gap in their education.
Debra Loveless Meier Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to reentry women majoring in fields related to education.
Helen Melcomian Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to reentry students. Student level not specified.
Marilyn Painter Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate reentry women students.
Mary Flynn Palley Endowed Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate reentry female students. Consideration given to married families, single-parent families, and/or first generation reentry female students.
Palley/Johnson Endowment Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate reentry students Consideration may be given to young married families and/or single parent families; first generational reentry students who have never attended college or whose parental family members are not college graduates.
J.C. Penney Co. at Cache Valley Mall Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate or graduate female reentry students. Consideration given to those majoring or minoring in fields related to business, management, fashion merchandising, or other retail related areas.
Pitcher/Emert Alpha Chi Omega Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate or graduate reentry women. Consideration given to reentry women with children.
Promote Educational Opportunities (PEO) Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to instate undergraduate or graduate reentry women with a declared major.
Bette R. & Bonnie J. Reese Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to senior or graduate reentry women students. 1 st priority to be given to reentry women and 2 nd to senior female graduate student. Preference to those majoring in English, Journalism or Political Science.
Blanche Browning Rich Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to reentry students and/or women students having demonstrated academic achievement and financial need. Student level not specified.
Ferdinand F. & Claire C. Sawyer Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to reentry undergraduate or graduate women and men.
The Sigler “You Can Do It” Endowment Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate or graduate reentry women and men.
Evan & Jean Stevenson Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to u ndergraduate or graduate reentry women who are single mothers. Student level not specified.
Alice H. & Allen W. Stokes Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to reentry women only.
W. C. Swanson Family Foundation Scholarships shall be awarded to reentry women students. Student level not specified.
Rachel Ann Farnes Maughan Wadsworth Scholarship Recipients shall be undergraduate reentry women students who show high scholarship. Recipients shall have attended Utah State at least one year.
William C. Walther Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate reentry students. Students must have a 3.5 minimum GPA and must be natural-born American citizens. Students may receive a Walther scholarship award only once. Consideration will be given to a Walther family member
Joan Forsgren-White Scholarship Scholarships shall be awarded to undergraduate reentry women or men who have a 3.0 GPA.

OTHER FUNDING AVAILABLE:

Encouragement Scholarship
Criteria: Undergraduate women or men, first time college student, enrolled for minimum of three credit hours for the first two semesters.

The Women Center Scholarship Fund
Criteria: Reentry women or men.

Tuition Waivers
Criteria: Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, available to women and men and show financial need.

ALTERNATIVE FINANCIAL HELP

We suggest that you check with the Financial Aid Office. They can give you information on federal and state monies that are available. Other scholarships and grants may be made available through the Women's Center by community organizations and agencies.
