Scholarships
The Women & Gender Studies Program at USU is pleased to announce applications for the 2009-2010 Alison Comish Thorne Scholarship, in honor of the lifelong leader in women's issues both at USU and in the Cache Valley. Established by her children, the Thorne Scholarship recognizes her pivotal role and contributions as a USU professor, a founder of the USU Women's Center for Lifelong Learning and the Women Studies Program, and as a civic leader and community activist throughout her life.
The Thorne Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is awarded annually ($500 per semester) to an undergraduate Women & Gender Studies student.
Applications will be reviewed by the Women & Gender Studies Steering Committee and the Women's Center director. Recipients will be announced on March 24, during the WGS celebration of Women's History Month. The Thorne Scholar will serve as a WGS ambassador during the year of the scholarship award, assisting the WGS director in promoting program goals.

Declared WGS minor or area studies concentration.
- Minimum B grades in WGS 1010--Introduction to Women & Gender Studies, and at least six additional credit hours in WGS courses.
- Junior or senior with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Special consideration to students actively engaged in women’s issues.

Letters should address the applicant’s educational goals, reasons for applying for the Thorne Scholarship and interests/involvement in women and gender issues. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
