Youth Conservatory Activities and Special Events:

The Youth Conservatory invites the whole family to its memorable annual events. These events provide students the unique opportunity to perform for family and friends and interact in a positive and fun environment with other young pianists.

Halloween Recital and Carnival, Fri. Oct. 30, 2009

Quite likely the event with the most student appeal, this recital focuses on fun to minimize the fright often associated with performance. After performing in costume, students and their families can choose from any or all of an assortment of activities: penny toss, donut eating and prize pond to name just a few!

Christmas Recital in the USU Performance Hall, Tue. Dec. 1, 2009

Performers for this recital are determined by audition. Those selected are rewarded with the unique opportunity of performing in the award-winning Performance Hall at USU, completed in 2006. Auditions for this recital will be held Monday, November 23rd. Call the office for more information (435) 797-3018.

Monster Concert, Sat. Feb. 6, 2010

During this "monstrous" ensemble event, more than 20 pianos fill the stage and approximately 400 students participate. This tremendously popular concert, which includes the annual visit of a monster who shares his humorous and heart-warming adventures between numbers, delights young and old alike. The ensemble skills students develop by participating in this event are priceless additions to their musicianship.

Piano Festival, Sat. Apr. 17, 2010

Students have the option of participating in the competition or non-competition divisions of this event. Competition winners receive various awards, including money, certificates, ribbons and trophies. Noncompeting students perform for qualified adjudicators and are given written comments of their performances. When not performing, students can win prizes at the carnival by playing music games. The festival concludes with the annual Young People's Concert, where prize-winning pianists perform masterpieces of keyboard literature.

Youth Conservatory Graduation, Tues. Apr. 27, 2010

At graduation, all students who have successfully completed the requirements of the musicianship class are recommended by the faculty for advancement to the next level. Students are awarded graduation certificates as they are presented by their classroom teacher to the audience. Outstanding students are honored with ribbons, and special awards are given. This event, held in the Kent Concert Hall, gives students a great feeling of accomplishment and encourages them to continue their musical pursuits.
