Experience: Performing since age eight, Brian has been engaged in serious study of the piano since age eleven, under the direction of Dr. Bonnie Gritton of the University of Utah and subsequently under Dr. Gary Amano of Utah State University. In his pre-college career, he was featured in numerous competitions and recitals around the state. Brian has been teaching students whose experience ranges from beginning to advanced-intermediate since age fifteen, and is excited to begin working within USU's Youth Conservatory program. Brian also has extensive experience with children, including four years of camp counseling, various service projects with local schools through the Key Club association, and the 4-H mentoring program in Logan. Philosophy: As an aspiring musician, I am dedicated both to my own pursuit of music and to its teaching. The study of music includes not only a proficiency at the keyboard, but also an understanding of basic theory, history and performance practice. With an eye always towards the idea that piano study should always be enjoyable and rewarding, I constantly seek to teach the piano in a way that fosters an appreciation for music in general. I operate on the principles that each student has the potential to become a high-quality musician, yet that each student's experience with music is different. A flexible approach to teaching allows me to meet each student's needs more personally and better impart my passion for music.
