It is a pleasure to invite you to the 42nd Annual USU Piano Festival on Saturday April 20, 2013 in the Chase Fine Arts Center. The festival will feature the Music Carnival, performance adjudications, and the USU Piano Festival Competition.
We will offer 18 different competitions this year. Specific details about each competition is included on an additional page. All students, including previous winners, may enter one or more of the competitions as long as they meet the age and repertoire requirements and play a different piece in each competition entered. All competition participants should be prepared to play in the morning as well as in the afternoon, if scheduling requires this. This year the Method Book Artist will have only two divisions, ages 9 and under and ages 10-13. Students must play any two memorized pieces in a method book. A composer such as Schumann may be used as long as the piece is in a method book. Contestants must bring the method book(s) to show eligibility. The Mini Artist Competition will be divided into three divisions: ages 9 and under, ages 10-13, and ages 14-18. The entry fee for all competitions will be $20 each.
Students who choose NOT to compete can perform before a festival adjudicator and receive written comments. One or two pieces may be played in the non-competition division, not to exceed 6 minutes playing time. The fee for non-competition adjudication is $15.
The Festival fee entitles each student and his/her teacher to attend all events, including the Piano Festival Competitions & Finals, any adjudicated performances, and the Music Carnival.
Special requests for non-competition students, (schedule before noon, after 1 p.m., etc.) will result in an additional $5 fee. If the festival is unable to honor a special request, the $5 special request fee will be refunded. Applications with special requests that do not have the appropriate fee included will not be processed. Because of the many divisions in the Piano Festival Competitions, special requests will not be accepted for competition students.
Register by completing and returning the appropriate application form postmarked by March 20, 2013. Please note that there are separate forms for non-competition students, and both forms are included in this mailing. In addition, forms and information are available online at www.usu.edu/ycpiano. A complete schedule of the day's activities will be sent to teachers at a later date, and teachers are asked to share schedule information with their students. Please make checks payable to USU PIANO FESTIVAL and send the completed application forms to:
