The Mountain West Center sponsors several programs that benefit K-12 teachers in Utah and elsewhere. We welcome your thoughts on other ways we can help with the mission of pre-college education.
Utah History Fair
Under the direction of Mountain West Center staffer Nicholas Demas , the Utah History Fair reaches all the corners of the state, teaching kids how to be historians. Beginning with teachers helping students prepare exhibits, videos, papers, and more, the fair continues through several regional fairs and on to the State History Fair. Winners then go to Washington , D.C. , for National History Day . Teacher training is available on an as-requested basis. More information here.
Bennion Teachers' Workshop
Thanks to an endowment created by Ione Bennion, a teacher and community activist, the Mountain West Center offers an annual teachers' workshop focused on wide-ranging topics related to the perpetuation of democracy. The workshop is held each summer in Logan and is taught by various members of the USU faculty. More information here.
Faces of Utah

The $300 award is presented to the recipient during the State History Fair in April. Factors in selection include length of time participating in the History Fair, level of improvement over time, quality of student presentations, and more.
