I am writing to you at the end of nearly 12 years at the helm of Utah State University, a wonderful institution that has transformed my life, and I hope yours as well. Beyond the transformative experience of braving biting winter winds to trudge up Old Main hill for classes, your time here has hopefully given you the sense of accomplishment that comes with a college degree, the camaraderie and community that comes with being an Aggie, and educational insight that has changed the way you view the world, others and even yourself.
These experiences, though, come with a price tag. As a public university, most of that cost is paid for by taxpayers and tuition, but an essential part is covered by the loyal friends of USU. Friends like you.
Over my tenure here, I have watched Utah State University grow into its own as a land-grant university, providing a college education to students in every corner of the state and beyond. I have championed access to education as one of our greatest callings, but access is not only geographical, it is financial. Last year alone, your generosity provided nearly $13 million in scholarship funds to help 5,191 students attend Utah State. For many of these students, a scholarship provided the access to a college education not otherwise possible.
Your gift will open doors that would remain closed without it. When you give to USU, you make an immediate and powerful impact in the lives of students, an impact that will resonate for the rest of their lives.
I have been impressed over the years by how often you’ve come through for Utah State. Your generosity has helped USU become one of the highest-ranked public universities in the West and ensures we have one of the lowest tuition rates in the country. But we can only continue on that path with your help.
Thank you so much for your continued support.
