The Greatest of Reunions
Lois Fryer Sorenson ‘49, Loila Funk Anderson ‘48, and Bernice Hyer McCowin ‘49 were Kappa Delta sisters at Utah State shortly after the ending of World War II in 1945. While their Aggie husbands have passed on, this trio makes getting together and reminiscing about Utah State a regular activity. |
They’ve been dubbed the Greatest Generation, the fine men and women who grew up during and after World War II. And they include people like USU Alumna Lois Fryer Sorenson ‘49, Loila Funk Anderson ‘48, and Bernice Hyer McCowin ‘49. |

AGGIE WILL YOU DRIVE MY CAR?
Mike Bullen and his father, Del, next to Mike’s ‘55 Mustang Convertible. The car has been in the USU Homecoming parade almost continually since 1983. Del has the 50th anniversary edition of the car, shown on the left in red. |
Each fall Aggies and their families line Main Street in downtown Logan for one of Cache Valley’s largest community events, the USU Homecoming Parade. If you’ve been on the sidelines before, chances are that you’ve seen Michael Bullen ‘85 in his red, 1955 Mustang convertible. Bullen has been driving homecoming royalty and honorees since he was a student in 1983, missing only two years when he lived in Phoenix. He’s driven Representative Rob Bishop, USU basketball hall of famer Greg Grant, and LDS Church apostle L. Tom Perry, among others. We recently visited Bullen and his dad, Del Bullen, to see their collection of cars. |

The Power of Mentorship
One of the most meaningful activities for our alumni is when they are able to share their time and talents to assist students in their education and careers. These experiences are rewarding for the alumni and immensely helpful for the student nearing graduation. Many students want to connect with other Aggies that are established in their careers to receive career advice and be introduced to others in their desired industry. This is particularly important for graduating seniors.
If you would like to mentor students, you can create a mentor profile on USU’s new Handshake platform, the software that recently replaced Career Aggie. Students are able to search for prospective alumni mentors based on location, industry, college, and a host of other variables. You can connect your LinkedIn profile for even faster registration. Consider signing up to be an alumni mentor. It’s a way to give back and stay connected with USU. |
HOMECOMING 5K GETS PB!
The Running of the Bulls 5k will once again start at the USU Welcome Center. The course still runs downtown but has been improved by eliminating some turns.
I was asked to be the race director for the homecoming 5k two years ago. I had no aspirations for the title, I suspect everyone in the office just assumed I would love the assignment because I run almost every day at lunch. They were right, I do love it. And I’m happy to say that this year’s Running of the Bulls 5k is going to be a new personal best, for us as an Alumni Association, and hopefully your race time too.

HOME IS WHERE YOUR AGGIE HEART IS
Homecoming Around the State & Beyond
For many, homecoming means returning to Cache Valley in the beautiful fall. But USU is more than a northern-centric school these days. USU extends to all parts of the state, through its many branch campuses and its distance education capabilities. In fact, some USU alumni have never stepped foot in Logan, but are overflowing with Aggie pride. If you’re of the neo-Aggie variety, there are homecoming activities for you too in Tooele, Price, and Blanding. And of course, if you’re nowhere near Utah this week, you can still participate in homecoming by watching the USU vs. Wyoming football game; the big game is being broadcast on Facebook this year so everyone can join.
