Twenty dollars and five cents. That seemingly small amount was the initial installment of Brady Murray’s $100 pledge for his senior gift. Though real money to a recent graduate, that $100 would hardly portend the contributions that would follow. What couldn’t be seen in the monetary value of that initial gift was the heart behind it. A heart that would help where help was needed.
Brady grew up in the small town of Preston, Idaho. After serving a mission for the LDS Church to Peru, he met and married Andrea Allen of Cove, Utah. In 2005, he graduated cum laude from Utah State University with a degree in accounting. Following his graduation, Brady’s career fast-tracked moving him quickly from opening an office in Logan for Beneficial Financial group, to Vice President of Career Development of Allegis Financial Partners, to serving as President – General Agent of Mass Mutual Financial Group, Intermountain West.
Brady’s professional life has been one of achievement and distinction, but he has not waited until the later years of life to give back to society. When Brady sees a need, he takes action. In 2007, Brady and Andrea were blessed with a son who has Down syndrome. Since that time, Brady has been active in helping individuals and families throughout the Down syndrome community. In 2012, he founded Racing for Orphans with Down syndrome (RODS Racing.) Through his own efforts and those of many others, countless orphaned children with Down syndrome have been placed in loving homes. Brady has also competed in numerous Ironman Triathlon’s to help raise awareness and funding for these children.
Even amongst Brady’s many achievements he never forgot his time at Utah State. Since the time of his first $100 pledge, Brady and Andrea have donated more than $42,000 to create an endowed scholarship in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business. Brady also serves on the national advisory board for the school, and returns frequently to speak with students and recruit qualified Aggies to work for his company.
Many alumni such as Brady and Andrea are giving back to USU. They are making a difference in the lives of students by supporting their education and helping them to lay the foundation for their own careers. “From the time we graduated we felt it a priority to start giving back to Utah State. There were so many people who touched our lives while we were students that it was our way to attempt to pay it forward for their service. What we’ve now found is that giving back has also been deeply rewarding and has enriched our lives as well. They truly exemplify the truth of what Sir Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
