Utah State University academic advisors provide an inclusive environment in which the advisor assists undergraduate students in making responsible and informed decisions about educational plans, professional goals, and life outlook consistent with the student's strengths, values, abilities, and interests.

Professional Development Series for Academic Advisors

All sessions are aligned with Core Competencies from the National Academic Advising Association.

Front and Center Speaker Series

The Student Achievement Collaborative offers the Front and Center series to provide information for student-facing professionals at Utah State University. 

  • September 13: How all student-facing staff can amplify students’ goals and dreams for the future (Career Design Center)
  • September 27: How all student-facing staff can assist students to access their potential through academic success (Student Retention and Completion and Habits of Mind)
  • October 11: Spring 2023 Preview (Provost's Office and Office of the Executive Vice President) and Part 2: How all student-facing staff can talk to students about sexual assault prevention training (Office of Equity)
  • November 1: How all student-facing staff can help students create alignment of plan with purpose and process (University Advising)
  • December 13: How all student-facing staff can talk to students about financial aid and scholarships (Student Financial Support)

Degree Progress Forms Training

September 15, 1:00-1:50 pm

Student athletes are required to meet specific progress requirements to maintain eligibility for their sport. Academic advisors complete Degree Progress Forms (DPFs) to ensure eligibility. Join the Student-Athlete Academic and Development team to be trained in the DPF process. Presenters are Justice Smith-Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Academics and Development and Jeremiah Sievers-Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Academics and Development.

Using Degree Works to Accurately Plan to Graduation

September 19, 1:30-2:20 pm

Degree Works tools provide advisors with strategies for assisting students in accurately planning a semester-by-semester plan to graduation. Join Toni Gibbons-Assistant Registrar for this session.

Join us to learn more about the role of USU academic advisors, the tools advisors utilize to develop meaningful relationships with students, and caseload management strategies to increase persistence and retention.

Using Achieve to Celebrate Your Success

December 5, 1:30-2:25 pm

Achieve is a tool utlized by Utah State University students to schedule appointments with their academic advisors. Did you know the Reports and Analytics tabs provide data to see when your students are accessing appointments, which appointments were scheduled and walk-ins, and more.
