USU Alumni Team Wins Prestigious Pinehurst Tournament
Brice Mindrum, Chad Evans, J.D. Larsen, Bart Purser represented Utah State at the Acura Alumni Collegiate Championship in October. They went on to win the tournament in the net score division.
For the last several years on the first day of classes at Utah State, Aggies have gathered at the Ogden Golf & Country Club to play in the annual USU Alumni Association Golf Tournament. Registration fees and generous tournament sponsorships from businesses like the Young Automotive Group and the USU Credit Union help raise around $40,000 each year, providing needed support for scholarships and operations at the Alumni Association.
The desire to support USU is a big draw for alumni, but the grand prize, an opportunity to represent Utah State at the Acura Alumni Collegiate Championship at Pinehurst, is equally motivating. This year, USU’s team not only won the trip to golf’s mecca, they beat out 59 Division I schools by seven strokes to win the tournament.
“We are really happy to support USU and to represent all Aggies at this tournament,” said Chad Evans. “The trip is a golfer’s dream. We’ll definitely be playing in the local alumni tournament again in hopes of a repeat. That shouldn’t discourage other Aggies from playing though, we played exceptionally well this year.”
