Jazz Jams

Arts/Entertainment

An eagerly awaited tradition around the Music Department is our series of monthly jam sessions, in which a guest artist (or two or three) from outside Cache Valley visits to perform jazz standards with USU students and community members in a relaxed environment. Come and sit in on a tune, or just sit back, relax, and enjoy the music. Jam sessions are completely unscripted, so you never know what exactly will happen, but it’s great fun watching musicians perform without a net! Our guest artist for September 29 is saxophonist/composer/arranger/bandleader Brian Booth. Brian’s music career has spanned 3 decades, during which time he has performed with many of the premier groups from around the Salt Lake area. He has performed with numerous notables including Natalie Cole, Lou Rawls, Mel Tormé, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra Jr., Maureen McGovern, Rosemary Clooney, Debby Boone, and many others. Brian is a member of the Salt Lake City Jazz Orchestra (SLCJO) where he plays lead tenor saxophone, and he occasionally works with the Utah Symphony. With his good friend, trombonist Kevin Stout, Booth has released four CD recordings on the Jazzed5 Records label.
