Mentoring Students with Intention

Workshop/Training | EmpowerED Series

In this hour-long workshop, student mentors will learn about the importance of ground rules in mentoring students – establishing rapport, confidentiality, and professional boundaries. Furthermore, participants will explore how to successfully engage in student mentorship through the lens of the GROW model, a structured approach that guides mentees from goal setting to actionable outcomes. The GROW framework highlights four key stages: identifying the mentee’s Goal, evaluating the current Reality of each goal, generating possible Options (and acknowledging Obstacles), and establishing the Will or Way forward. The session will review evidence-based practices rooted in the literature and incorporated into mentorship programs from around the country. Through real-world examples and interactive discussions, participants will gain practical insights into applying the GROW model and forging professional relationships with student mentees both inside and outside the classroom.

Fall Break: Cataract Canyon Rafting Trip

We are heading up to Cataract Canyon for a week of rafting and camping. We will spend nights around the fire and raft the thrilling rapids of the River. Participants must be able to swim. Trip cost includes food, transportation, permit fees, rafting equipment, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad and student leadership.

Harvest Rescue

Student Activities

Harvest Rescue coordinates available ready-to-harvest produce from tree and garden owners with local volunteers to pick and donate the produce to organizations who can use it. Volunteers who harvest and pick produce are required to wear closed toed shoes and be respectful of the tree/land owners property. Volunteers under the age of 18 are required to have adult supervision during sessions. Volunteers are permitted to take home a small portion of the harvested produce in appreciation for their support.
