Snowshoe Tour of the Preserve

Recreation

Join us for a nature walk on the Preserve! During this tour, you will learn about the history and ecology of the Preserve as well as what kinds of plants and animals you will find on the Swaner Preserve. Additionally, you will have time to search for and identify animal tracks and other signs of wildlife. This outing is appropriate for all ages and will take place on generally flat terrain with a slight uphill grade.

Snowshoes can be rented from the EcoCenter if needed - $2.50 for members, $5 for non-members

Nancy Hills, a professor in Utah State University’s Theatre Arts Department and the Caine College of the Arts, has designed costumes for “The Playboy of the Western World” and, most recently, “Blithe Spirit,” both for Artist Repertory Theatre in Portland, Ore. She’s travelled to Great Britain where, among numerous activities, she presented a public lecture at the Society of Antiquaries in London. The title of the presentation was “Historical Dress: a Project Inspired by Janet Arnold” and it featured recreations of gowns from patterns taken from Hills’ Janet Arnold research, and modeled by 11 USU interior design students. The gowns were constructed by USU Theatre Arts graduate students. Janet Arnold (1932-1998), the subject of Hills’ research, was a British clothing historian, costume designer, teacher, conservator and author.

The gowns have become well-traveled. They appeared in the exhibit “Symphony in White” from June 2014 through Christmas at Berrington Hall near Leominster in Herefordshire — this time appearing on dress forms. And now they are a part of a new exhibit, “Shades of White: The Changing Shape of Women,” that will be shown Feb. 14 through April 25 at the Hereford Museum and Gallery in Hereford. The Singer As...Teacher Master Class

The USU Department of Music is thrilled to present its three-part visiting artist and scholar series, The Singer As…, where we explore the various career paths of professional singers. The second installment, The Singer As… teacher features internationally recognized voice teacher Dr. Robin Rice. Dr. Rice teaches at the prestigious Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and is the author of the book Great Teachers on Great Singing. This master class is free and open to the public.

Nancy Hills, a professor in Utah State University’s Theatre Arts Department and the Caine College of the Arts, has designed costumes for “The Playboy of the Western World” and, most recently, “Blithe Spirit,” both for Artist Repertory Theatre in Portland, Ore. She’s travelled to Great Britain where, among numerous activities, she presented a public lecture at the Society of Antiquaries in London. The title of the presentation was “Historical Dress: a Project Inspired by Janet Arnold” and it featured recreations of gowns from patterns taken from Hills’ Janet Arnold research, and modeled by 11 USU interior design students. The gowns were constructed by USU Theatre Arts graduate students. Janet Arnold (1932-1998), the subject of Hills’ research, was a British clothing historian, costume designer, teacher, conservator and author.

The gowns have become well-traveled. They appeared in the exhibit “Symphony in White” from June 2014 through Christmas at Berrington Hall near Leominster in Herefordshire — this time appearing on dress forms. And now they are a part of a new exhibit, “Shades of White: The Changing Shape of Women,” that will be shown Feb. 14 through April 25 at the Hereford Museum and Gallery in Hereford. Hills has added nine pieces to the show that features reinterpretations of gowns from 1750 to 1950.

The USU Department of Music is thrilled to present its three-part visiting artist and scholar series, The Singer As…, where we explore the various career paths of professional singers. The second installment, The Singer As… Teacher features internationally recognized voice teacher Dr. Robin Rice. Dr. Rice teaches at the prestigious Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and is the author of the book Great Teachers on Great Singing. Dr. Rice will be assisted in this performance by noted solo and collaborative pianist, Dr. Ryan Behan. This recital is the culmination of a residency of Dr. Rice and Dr. Behan during which they work with USU voice students in a variety ways.

Corey Christiansen will be playing trio with LA bassist, Anna Butterss, and drummer phenom Kobie Watkins (former drummer with Sonny Rollins). Friday’s concert features Mark Kroos who plays double-necked guitars and two guitars at once, Corey Christiansen’s Afro-Cuban Fusion project featuring Michael Spiro on percussion, Colin Douglas on drums and David Belove on bass, and national touring group The New West Guitar Trio. If you love guitar music both nights will be “do not miss” nights for you.

Snowshoe Tour of the Preserve

Join us for a nature walk on the Preserve! During this tour, you will learn about the history and ecology of the Preserve as well as what kinds of plants and animals you will find on the Swaner Preserve. Additionally, you will have time to search for and identify animal tracks and other signs of wildlife. This outing is appropriate for all ages and will take place on generally flat terrain with a slight uphill grade.

There is growing interest in promoting evidence-based policymaking within government agencies at the federal, state, and local levels to support scaling and sustaining innovations. Design-Based Implementation Research is an approach to developing and using evidence that can inform the iterative refinement and improvement of innovations in complex educational systems and community ecologies. It's principled approach requires the institutional and personal trust and support of long-term research-practice partnerships in which educators work in partnership with researchers and other education stakeholders to succeed. I will present an example of a DBIR initiative to develop and test a new high school biology curriculum to illustrate the potential and challenges of DBIR.

Snowshoe Tour of the Preserve

Join us for a nature walk on the Preserve! During this tour, you will learn about the history and ecology of the Preserve as well as what kinds of plants and animals you will find on the Swaner Preserve. Additionally, you will have time to search for and identify animal tracks and other signs of wildlife. This outing is appropriate for all ages and will take place on generally flat terrain with a slight uphill grade.
