USU + UDWR Lunch Seminar Series: Best-Worse Scaling to Explore Key Attributes Influencing Fishing Site Selection
Panel Discussion/Presentation
Blue Ribbon Fisheries (BRF) are designated to offer anglers high-quality fishing experiences in Utah’s exceptional natural settings while promoting environmental conservation. Despite their significance, limited research has examined the factors influencing anglers' preferences for these sites. This study bridges that gap using Best-Worst Scaling (BWS) and latent class modeling to identify key attributes valued by anglers. BWS assessed preferences for attributes such as catching large numbers of fish, trophy-sized fish, and enjoying nature and wildlife. Latent class modeling, crucial for uncovering unobserved heterogeneity within the angler population, revealed two distinct preference groups. One group prioritizes environmental quality and the overall fishing experience, while the other focuses more on catching large and trophy-sized fish. This approach enables the development of targeted management strategies to address the specific needs of different angler groups, leading to more effective conservation and management of BRF sites.
A light lunch will be provided for in person attendees. If you can't make it, join us via Zoom at https://usu-edu.zoom.us/j/84605245976?pwd=IbvlfiVQWuanADsG14nA68tr234C3X.1
