Choosing to Report

If you are unsure if you want to file a report, we are happy to discuss your options with you without hearing all the details of your story. Whether or not you decide to report, you may still be able to receive supportive measures to help you succeed in school or in your job.

Possible Supportive Measures

  • Changes to academic, living, dining, working or transportation situations.
  • Obtaining and enforcing a university-issued no contact directive.
  • Medical assistance, including information about preserving evidence.
  • No-contact directives for on campus.
  • Safety planning and notifying law enforcement.
  • Referrals to on- and off-campus resources, including victim advocates and counseling.

No-Contact Directives

A no-contact directive is an administrative action to prevent contact between two or more individuals on campus. The scope of a no-contact directive is determined on a case-by-case basis, but can include in-person contact or contact through electronic means or a third party. A no-contact directive should not be confused with a protective order, which is issued by the courts.

Anonymous Reports

Sometimes people who have experienced sexual misconduct or gender discrimination, or who have witnessed it, want to alert the university without becoming part of an investigation. Only students are able to make an anonymous report to the Title IX Coordinator. Anonymous reports can provide information about high-risk areas, so we can target communications and training where it is particularly needed. But there may not be enough information to pursue an investigation that leads to disciplinary action. We encourage you to provide as much information as you can.

Requests for Confidentiality

If you wish to maintain the privacy of your information or request that no investigation into a particular incident be conducted or disciplinary action taken, the Office of Equity will evaluate that request in the context of the university's responsibility to provide a safe, non-discriminatory environment for all students and employees, including for you.
