Scholarships, Financial Aid, SMMC All Housed in New Student Financial Support Department

Rather than maintaining three separate offices to help match students with financial support and resources, the Scholarship Office, Financial Aid Office, and the Student Money Management Center merged under one roof to form the Student Financial Support department at Utah State University.

“Financial constraints are one of the leading factors limiting a student from attending Utah State,” said Craig Whyte, the department’s executive director. “The demands of time are so short, we have to come together as a team, as quickly and as efficiently as possible, to assist our students and to help them persist and graduate from USU.”

Reducing the complexities of policies and procedures will streamline our ability to connect students with the financial resources they need. These resources help students understand FAFSA and their eligibility for loans, grants and work-study, facilitate students’ search and application for scholarships, and teach students to budget and live within their means.

Whyte encourages students to do three things to get the most of this new department:

  1. Complete the FAFSA annually
  2. Apply for scholarships
  3. Meet with a financial coach
