Students at the Aggie Leadership Academy

USU Holds 3rd Annual Aggie Leadership Academy

Continuing its tradition of helping students at Utah State University gain access to personal and professional development experiences, the Student Orientation and Transition Services department held the third annual Aggie Leadership Academy (ALA) conference on Feb. 12.

This year, roughly 70 student leaders were able to gather and learn from their peers through 12 presentations — plus keynote speaker Stacie Denetsosie, program coordinator for student orientation sessions — tips to improve leadership skills and expand impact as they serve the USU community, said junior Reagan Jensen, the Orientation Student Coordinator and ALA committee chair.

“Chairing the ALA planning committee was a very valuable and fulfilling experience,” Jensen added, “as I had the chance to work along fellow student leaders to put on a conference that represented many different organizations across campus.”

Presenters were reviewed and selected by students on the ALA committee who selected the final 12 based on their proposed topics, as well as their connection to the overall objectives and theme of the conference: Culture-Setting.

ALA presenter Karla Sandoval-Rodriguez, junior, said the experience “was a moment in my life that I will never forget.”

“I would say that Aggie Leadership Academy allowed me to really dive in, learn more about a topic that is so important to me, and it allowed me to share that with my peers,” she said. Recordings of the 2022 ALA presentations and their handouts are available here.
