Important Financial Aid Deadlines:

Please be aware of our processing deadlines so that you don't miss out on funding opportunities.

  • For student loans, verification items must be submitted by the last day of class before finals week.
  • For grants, please see verification deadlines below.
  • For marital status updates, students must be married and marital status updated on FAFSA before the last day of classes they are attending (not finals week). Marital status changes will not be considered after the June 30 FAFSA deadline for the preceding award year.
  • Please note, there are additional deadlines for tuition payment, course registration, financial aid appeals, etc.
  • Please allow 2-3 business days for accepted student loans to process before they appear as a credit on your account.
  • General and specific federal aid deadlines are listed below by semester:

Fall Semester 2020 (2020-2021 FAFSA)

Students should file their 2020-21 FAFSA and complete any verification tasks before July 2020 to have a good chance at meeting fall 2020 tuition payment deadlines. Students should file their 2020-21 FAFSA before November 2020 and complete any verification tasks before finals week to meet other deadlines for fall term if they are not attending spring 2021. Students are strongly encouraged to finalize any requirements and be otherwise eligible before the end of fall term to receive financial aid.

Specific Deadlines for Fall 2020

  • Aug 19: Tuition & Fee payment deadline
    Any difference between accepted & processed financial aid and fall charges must be paid by this date to avoid losing your courses
  • Sept 7: USU Eastern Tuition and Fee payment deadline
    Any difference between accepted & processed financial aid and fall charges must be paid by this date to avoid losing your courses

  • Aug 31 - Sept 21:  Grants will increase or decrease based on enrollment
  • Sep 21: Last day to submit an academic progress appeal for fall 2019 federal aid
  • Sep 21: Last day to register for courses in fall term and still receive grants, if otherwise eligible
    Any courses registered after this date do not qualify for an increase in grants
  • Sep 21: Adjustments made to cost of attendance based on enrollment level at the end of this day

  • Dec 09: Last day for a professional judgment appeal to be received in the financial aid office
  • Dec 09: Last day to request a Parent/Graduate PLUS loan from studentloans.gov (You must be otherwise eligible for federal aid)
  • Dec 16: Last day to submit your 2020-21 FAFSA if you are not attending spring 2021 semester and are eligible for a Federal Pell grant. 
    If you are selected for verification, all verification tasks must be submitted by early April 2021.
  • Dec 17: Last day to accept Direct loans for students only attending fall semester (You must have been awarded before this date!)

Summer Semester 2020 (2019-20 FAFSA)

Students should file their 2019-20 FAFSA and complete any verification tasks by April 2020 to have a good chance at meeting summer 2020 tuition payment deadlines. Students should file the 2019-20 FAFSA before June 2020 and complete any verification tasks to meet other deadlines for summer 2020 term. Students are strongly encouraged to finalize any requirements and be otherwise eligible before the end of summer term to receive financial aid.

Specific Deadlines for Summer 2020

  • April 22: Tuition and Fee payment deadline
    Any difference between accepted & processed financial aid and summer charges must be paid by this date to avoid losing your courses
  • June 3: Last day to submit academic progress appeal for summer 2020 federal aid - New Deadline
  • USU Financial Aid has deadlines to prevent grants from adjusting the entire semester. We use your final “last-day-to-add-classes” date to determine your grant deadline. Adding or dropping classes may change your grant deadlines. Below are the grant deadlines for summer enrollment:
    • Tues, May 12: 1st 7-Week session only
    • Thurs, May 21: 1st 7-Week + General 14-Week Session
    • Thurs, May 21: General 14-Week Session only
    • Mon, June 30: 2nd 7-Week Session only
    • Mon, June 30: 1st 7-Week + 2nd 7-Week Session
    • Mon, June 30: General 14-Week Session + 2nd 7-Week Session
    • Mon, June 30: Classes in all three sessions
  • June 30: Last day to submit your 2019-20 FAFSA (midnight Central Daylight time) - you must be currently enrolled when you submit your FAFSA
  • July 31: Last day to request a Parent/Graduate PLUS loan from studentloans.gov (You must be otherwise eligible for federal aid)
  • Aug 05: Last day for a professional judgment appeal to be received in the financial aid office. 
  • Aug 06: Last day to accept Direct loans (You must have been awarded before this date!)
  • Pell grant applicants only: If you are selected for verification, all verification tasks must be submitted by Sept 1, 2020.
  • Sep 04, 2020 - Last day to verify academic participation in withdrawn or failed courses for fall 2019, spring 2020 and summer 2020.

Spring Semester 2020 (2019-20 FAFSA)

Students should file their 2019-19 FAFSA and complete any verification tasks before December 2019 to have a good chance at meeting spring 2020 tuition payment deadlines. Students should file their 2019-19 FAFSA before April 2020 and complete any verification tasks before finals week to meet other deadlines for spring term if they are not attending summer 2020. Students must have a complete file and be otherwise eligible before the end of spring term to receive financial aid.

  • Fri, April 24: Last day to accept Direct loans for students only attending spring semester (You must have been awarded before this date!)
  • Fri, April 24: Last day to submit your 2019-20 FAFSA if you are not attending the summer 2020 semester and are eligible for a Federal Pell Grant. If you are selected for verification, all verification tasks must be submitted by Aug 15, 2020.

Students are strongly encouraged to finalize any requirements and be otherwise eligible before the end of summer term to receive financial aid.
