Advising Appointments
Please note, advising appointments are for students who are currently admitted to USU. If you are an international applicant, not yet admitted, submit a request for information. If you have applied and paid the application fee, contact usuintl@usu.edu. If you have recently been admitted, please contact internationalstudents@usu.edu.

Create Your Password for Your Student ID (A-number)

Visit myid.usu.edu to create the password for your Student ID. If you have any questions, follow these step-by-step instructions. You will need to do this to request your I-20. If you have difficulty after attempting to create your password, you can get help with a password reset.

Pay Your Enrollment Deposit (opens in October)

Enrollment Deposit Payment: Applies to Fall 2023 semesters and later. Summer semester admissions are not available for international undergraduate students.

This is a $200 nonrefundable deposit. $150 is a prepayment of tuition and fees, and $50 covers new student services, including orientation. Paying the deposit:
  • Is required of all admitted international undergraduate students before they begin the I-20 process
  • Confirms your intent to enroll
  • Secures your spot at USU Eastern, Price campus
  • Allows you to sign a contract for on-campus housing; consideration is first come, first served. Reserve early because housing fills up quickly.

Request Your I-20

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) Portal using your Student ID (A-Number) and password. Click on F/J Students and follow the instructions to upload your required documents for your I-20.

Ship Your I-20

Request your shipping label for your I-20, if you prefer the hard-copy I-20. (You will want to review these detailed instructions.) After your I-20 is ready we will ship it to you. Due to the pandemic, SEVP allows us to send your I-20 electronically. Let us know how you want to receive your I-20.

Pay the I-901 SEVIS Fee

Pay the I-901 Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) fee to activate your I-20/SEVIS record. Save a copy of your I-901 SEVIS fee receipt to show for your visa appointment and records.

Complete Your Visa Application

Complete the form DS-160 (Online Visa Application) to schedule your visa appointment. Remember to check Appointment Wait Times and Application Fees.

Schedule Your Visa Appointment

Locate a U.S. Embassy/Consulate location near you in your country and schedule your F-1 visa appointment.

Prepare For Your Visa Interview

Review tips on successfully finishing the visa consular interview.

Your Student Health & Immunizations

USU health insurance meets all minimum requirements for F-1 and J-1 visa holders.

Housing

Successfully secure your dorm or apartment as soon as you can before you arrive. Housing reservations fill up fast. Off-campus housing is also available.

Air & Ground Transportation

Schedule your air travel and plan to arrive at the Salt Lake City International Airport.

USUE Price campus is approximately 2 hours from the Salt Lake City International Airport. Do your best to arrive in Price, Utah, when your housing accommodation is open. Make ground transportation arrangements with the Salt Lake Express shuttle from the airport to Logan, Utah, prior to your arrival.

Complete Online Orientation

Before you register for classes, you will need to complete the online orientation. Your online orientation will guide you on how to register for classes within MyUSU. Review the Academic & Registration Calendars for deadlines. For information about paying tuition and fees, visit the Registrar's Office website.

Check-in After You Arrive

When you arrive at USU, you are required to first check-in online for the Office of Global Engagement using the ISSS Portal. (You can find a tutorial video to guide you through the process.)  Students transferring from another U.S. university or college are also required to check-in so that transfer paperwork can be completed. Also, complete the required online immigration orientation within the ISSS Portal online check-in (see tutorial video).

In Person International Orientation

New incoming international students are required to participate in our international orientation. This is a one day in person course with additional follow up required. Please connect with our International Advisor, Kelsey Kaiser (kelsey.kaiser@usu.edu) for assistance enrolling. 
  • Fall 2023 orientation is August 21 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. 
  • The course is SLSC 1030.

Connections Course

Connections is a two-credit academic course designed to ease your transition to Utah State by helping you understand the purpose of higher education and how you can intentionally take advantage of the many opportunities and resources available to you as a college student.
