For instance, the Roman Venus was originally a goddess of gardens, not love and sex like the Greek Aphrodite. While the two may have shared fertility, they had fundamentally little else in common. But under Aphrodite's guidance, Venus inherited a new kingdom and moved quickly from the backyard into the bedroom.
