1. | Matching. Match NINE (9) terms covered recently to examples of those terms. Three examples will be provided for each term and will come from those cited in class or in the textbook. Terms included on this quiz are: hybrid, suffix, substantive, dissimilation, participle, semantic change, metaphor, specialization, generalization, functional change. (18 pts.; 2 pts. @)

2. | Bases. Identify and define the FOUR (4) BASES in words of Latin derivation. (16 pts.; 4 pts. @ [2 pts./BASE, 2 pts./definition]). Any proper form of the BASE listed in the book will receive full credit.

3. | Suffixes. Identify and define the FOUR (4) suffixes in words of Latin derivation. (16 pts.; 4 pts. @ [2 pts./suffix, 2 pts./definition]). Any proper form of the suffix listed in the book will receive full credit.

4. | Sentences. Analyze and define the BASES and affixes in FOUR (4) words of Latin derivation. These words will be presented on the quiz in sentences which you have not seen before. Then give each word's part of speech (i.e. noun, adjective, verb, etc.) and its definition in context. (50 pts. total):

NOTA BENE: Throughout the quiz, you must use the proper format in identifying word elements: CAPITAL LETTERS followed by a dash for BASES, lower-case letters plus a dash for prefixes, and a dash plus lower-case letters for suffixes. |
