The Journal of Statistical Software

This journal was developed due to the need for an outlet for statistical software. Quite often, software gets developed, and is subsequently lost or rarely used as it has been difficult to make it available to other statisticians. The journal is peer-reviewed and free to both contributors and readers.

I was impressed with the web-site and the journal itself. The full-texts of the articles are easily found and downloaded. At this stage, due to the low numbers of articles in the journal, a search engine is not needed- this feature may become necessary in the future. The layout of the site makes it convenient to contact the authors of the articles, and instructions for authors are available and thorough.

One downfall of the site is the lack of data under software archives, although this may become added in the future. There is a link to statistical resources that has a lot of interesting and useful information. Thus, I think this journal fills an empty niche in the statistical world, and the site is well laid out and developed.
