Stat 2000, Section 001, Homework Assignment 8 (Due 3/22/2000 in class)
- *) Reminder: Quiz 2 will take place
on Friday 3/24/2000
Note that all the material discussed
in class (that is not part of the textbook) is relevant for the
quiz as well.
- 0) Reading: Sections 3.3, 3.4, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3;
Homework Solutions
- 1) Please work on the following textbook questions in Moore/McCabe:
- a) Exercise 3.35, 3.38, 3.41, 3.45, 3.49, 3.50 (1 Point each)
- b) Exercise 3.52, 3.54, 3.55 (1 Point each)
- c) Exercise 4.11, 4.12, 4.15, 4.17, 4.22, 4.24, 4.26, 4.30, 4.31, 4.36
(1 Point each)
- d) Exercise 2.19 (2 Points), 2.32 (1 Point), 2.35 (1 Point), 2.111 (2 Points)
These last 4 exercises from Section 2 are review questions that should
be part of your preparation for Quiz 2.
When you work on these questions, be as
efficient as possible. When you have to calculate the correlation or
the least squares regression line, first calculate the sums of the
x's, x^2's, y's, y^2's, and xy's, then determine SS(x), SS(y), and
SS(xy), and finally determine the regression coefficients and
the correlation coefficient r. If you cannot recall this fast solution,
check your lecture notes from 2/9/00 and 2/14/00. Also, look
at the solutions for Homework Assignment 5.
Alternatively, learn how to use your calculator efficiently.
