Exploring and Focus Areas

Students are undecided for a variety of reasons. The exploration process can begin with taking a reflective look at reasons why you are unable to choose a major. It could be that you have to many interests to narrow it down to just one, or you are afraid of making the wrong decision. To help you find an area to graduate in, we have created focus areas. These are a starting point for your academic exploration.

These distinct collections of programs and courses allow you to investigate your interests, in order to guide you to the major that aligns most closely with your future aspirations. For More information on Focus Areas go to: usu.edu/advising/exploratory/majors-courses.

Advising for First-Year Exploratory Students

For general registration questions, please use our chat feature (chat or go to the orientation page and click the "Chat" button on the right-hand side of the page) from 8:00 am to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or during special hours on the days of registration from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. You can also email the hotline at orientation@usu.edu.

If you have questions regarding your first semester registration, after you have utilized the instructions listed in this guide and completed Module 2 of New Student Orientation, you may schedule an appointment with an Exploratory advisor.
