Exploring and Focus Areas
In college you have options. Along with choosing classes that build your skills and suite your interests, you will want to take classes that fulfill degree requirements. While degree plans differ, every degree plan requires you to complete all the general education courses. It is recommended that for your first semester, you take:
- USU 1010 - University Connections
- ENGL 1010 - Writing as Inquiry (CL1). If you have already completed ENGL 1010, then take ENGL 2010* (CL2) - Research and Argument Across Perspectives or ENGL 2020* (CL2) - Professional Communication
- Any of the six breadth area courses that allow you to explore your interests and strengths
Students are undecided for a variety of reasons. Exploratory Advising is here to help you through the process of choosing your major. To help you narrow down the options, we have created focus areas.
These distinct collections of programs and courses allows you to investigate your interests, to guide you to the major that aligns most closely with your future aspirations. See more information on focus areas.
You may not know exactly what you want to major in, and that is ok. The tracks, listed at the right, will help you as you explore your interests and introduce you to courses that might get you started.
