Risk Management

Mission

The mission of USU Risk Management is to support the university’s ability to fulfill its complex mission by effectively balancing risk and opportunity. We want to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to help them achieve their goals while ensuring the protection of the university.

Objectives

Utah State University employees are covered under the Utah Division of Risk Management’s Risk Fund for the following liabilities:

Delivering exceptional customer service.

Promoting a culture of compliance with all university policies and procedures.

Ensuring youth programs are both policy-compliant and safety-focused.

Providing structured and efficient international travel assistance.

Enhancing driver safety initiatives.

Managing claims accurately and efficiently to reduce their frequency, severity, and cost through continuous education and communication.

Insurance Coverage

Utah State University employees are covered under the Utah Division of Risk Management’s Risk Fund for the following liabilities:

  • Commercial General Liability
  • Professional Liability
  • Errors and Omissions
  • Automobile Liability

This coverage applies when employees are performing duties within the scope of their employment or under university authority.

The university’s property insurance through the Fund provides all-hazards, replacement-cost coverage for university-owned property or property for which the university has assumed liability prior to a loss. A $5,000 deductible applies.

The university’s auto physical damage coverage through the Fund covers all university-owned and scheduled vehicles.  A $1,500 deductible applies to each vehicle and incident.

Additionally, Utah State University employees are insured for work-related injuries or illnesses through WCF Insurance.
