Grabowska, Silcock Represent USU Track & Field at NCAA Indoor Championships

Utah State [University] track and field junior pole vaulter Sonia Grabowska and senior high jumper Clint Silcock will represent USU at this weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships, as the championships field was announced Monday evening [March 7] by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee.

The championships will be held Friday and Saturday, March 11-12 at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, hosted by Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

"We're looking forward for the opportunity to see Sonia and Clint compete among the nation's best. They have both worked hard all season and are very deserving," USU veteran head coach Gregg Gensel said. "It should be a lot of fun and I'm excited to see what they can do."

Grabowska qualified with a mark of 4.25m (13-11.25) in winning the Western Athletic Conference championship in the pole vault at Boise, Idaho on Feb. 25, and breaking her own USU record of 4.20m in the process.

Silcock also qualified with a USU-record jump, clearing 2.24m (7-04.25) Feb. 4 at the New Mexico Classic at Albuquerque, N.M. The previous record was 2.23m set by Dave Hoffman in 1999. Silcock won the high jump in all six meets he competed in this indoor season, including winning his third-straight WAC Championship Feb. 26.

This is Grabowska's second appearance at the NCAA Championships, also qualifying in 2009, the last time that the Indoor Championships were held at College Station, Texas.

Silcock is a two-time All-American, earning accolades at the 2009 Indoor Championships and the 2010 Outdoor Championships.

ESPN2 will show a tape delay of the event March 16 at 12:30 p.m. (MT). ESPN3 will webstream the event Friday, March 11, from 2-6:40 p.m. (MT) and Saturday, March 12, from 2-5:50 p.m. (MT). The remainder of the event will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
