Groundbreaking set for USU-Brigham City's New Building

Utah State University-Brigham City will hold the groundbreaking ceremony for its new classroom and student services building Thursday, Oct. 9, at 1:30 p.m. The ceremony will be held at the new campus site, 989 South Main Street.

All members of the community are welcome.

“We are very excited to have this new building on our new campus site becoming a reality,” said USU-Brigham City Dean Tom Lee. “So many people have worked hard to move this project to this point. We are indebted to the great support of the community, the university and our state legislature to make this a reality.”

The $15 million, 50,000-square foot facility will anchor the 48-acre campus that once housed the former Intermountain Indian School. The legislature appropriated $7.5 million for the building, with Brigham City bonding for the other half. The university had previously purchased the land and completed the environmental cleanup of the site and the demolition of the buildings.

The new facility will contain broadcast-enabled classrooms, a lecture hall, multi-purpose room and offices for faculty, advisors and staff. It will serve the educational needs of Brigham City and the surrounding region as these areas continue to grow.

USU’s extended plans for the new campus include a regional research and development complex and additional classroom and laboratory buildings.

Bridgerland Applied Technology College’s Brigham City campus will also expand as a result of the new building. BATC will move into part of USU’s current space on 1100 South in Brigham City when USU moves into the new building in the fall of 2015. USU and BATC will have shared facilities in part of the current complex for new programs in robotics, composites and other technology training programs.

A new campus would not be possible without the generous support of local businesses and members of the community. Residents still have an opportunity to become a part of the new Brigham City campus. Paver stones will grace the south entrance of the new building and surround the Aggie block “A” pedestal. Other naming opportunities are also available.
