Rose Hu, associate dean for research at the Utah State University College of Engineering, is this year’s winner of the Women in Communications Engineering Outstanding Achievement Award presented by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Hu will receive the award the week of Dec. 4 at the 2023 IEEE ComSoc Flagship conference for her outstanding technical work in the broad field of communications engineering and for achieving a high degree of visibility in the field.
Hu, who specializes in 5G wireless communications and networking research, is a fellow of IEEE and has received many additional honors from the group, including being the incoming editor-in-chief for the IEEE Communications magazine, starting in January 2024.
“It’s an incredible honor to be given the WICE outstanding technical achievement Award,” Hu said. “I am proud to be a member of IEEE Communications Society and to be of service to its Women in Communications Engineering Committee. To be recognized by my fellow engineers and researchers by this prestigious award is very gratifying.”
Hu has also been named an IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer from 2015-2018 and has received multiple prestigious Best Paper awards from IEEE conferences. She has served on the IEEE Communications Society Board of Governors and the American Society for Engineering Education Engineering Research Council Board of Directors since 2022 and was invited as a keynote speaker at several IEEE conferences.
Hu specializes in next-generation wireless communications and networking, Internet of Things, edge computing, AI and machine learning, cyber physical systems and more. She was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Mentor of the Year at USU in 2022 and faculty researcher of the year in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and College of Engineering in 2014 and 2016.
She currently directs the USU Communications Network Innovation lab, advises a group of graduate and doctoral students and teaches a handful of classes in addition to her responsibilities as the associate dean of research.
