Utah State's Tai Wesley Named To NABC All-District Team
Utah State's [University] Tai Wesley received another award Wednesday [March 9, 2011] as he was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 6 First Team. On Sunday [March 6], Wesley was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
For Wesley, it is the third year in a row he has been recognized by the NABC as he was named to the District 6 second-team as both a sophomore and junior.
Wesley, a 6-7, 240-pound forward from Provo, Utah (Provo HS), was joined on the first-team by Troy Gillenwater (New Mexico State), Adrian Oliver (San Jose State), Devon Beitzel (Northern Colorado) and Brian Qvale (Montana).
Wesley is averaging 14.5 points and 7.9 rebounds this year, while shooting 59.4 percent from the field and 72.0 percent at the free throw line. He currently ranks second in the WAC and 12th in the nation in shooting, and also ranks fourth in the WAC in rebounding, sixth in blocked shots (1.06) and seventh in scoring.
District 6 is made up of teams from the Big Sky Conference and Western Athletic Conference.
Utah State (28-3, 15-1) is the top seed in the upcoming WAC Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., and will play fourth-seeded Idaho (18-12, 9-7), fifth-seeded Hawai'i (18-11, 8-8) or eighth-seeded San Jose State (15-14, 5-11) in the first of two semifinals on Friday, March 11, at 7 p.m. (MT).
