LOGAN--The new face of the Social Media Marketing and PR Specialist is Clay Smith.  Clay is a student at the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University, in Logan. He has spent several years in the social media marketing industry with several businesses.

Through spreading awareness about the assistive technology and services UATP has available, more people can learn if this is something they can benefit from. “It’s crazy how many people are not aware of UATP, and everything the program has to offer,” he said. “Before getting this job, I was unaware of the resources available to people with disabilities. However, I have learned a lot, including accessibility issues, assistive technology, and the impact it can have on people.”

We’re glad to have Clay as part of our team. He is already a familiar face on our social media, so keep your eye out. And to stay updated on the latest news and events happening with UATP follow us on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and TikTok!

OGDEN—Our friends in Box Elder, Davis and Weber counties may have already met Melinda Thornton, our VISTA member. She has been distributing flyers, visiting independent living centers and attending events for months, spreading the word about assistive technology.

She serves on the board of the Ogden Weber Community Action Partnership, and she is a committed disability and assistive technology advocate.

“There's a big disconnect between the need of people with mobility issues, or physical issues that they need some assistance with, and what insurances cover,” she said. “UATP fills that need by repurposing the chairs and selling them at a very discounted rate to where they are accessible to people, especially those living in poverty. Because there is a huge number of disabled people that are in poverty.”

Watch for Melinda at the Neighborhood Party on June 14. It’s at Ogden’s Liberty Park at 22nd Street and Monroe by the playground, and it runs from 5 to 9 pm. Melinda will man a booth for us there!
