Claude J. and Frances D. Burtenshaw are the parents of six daughters and 2 sons, grandparents of 45 grandchildren and have over 100 great-grandchildren.

Before the war, Claude earned an Associate degree from Ricks College. He served in the U.S. Army Air-Corps in WW II. He obtained his Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate degrees in Political Science from the University of Utah. He taught Political Science at Ricks College then left to become the President of Carbon College at Price, Utah. In 1962, he became Dean of Students, then Vice President of Student Affairs at Utah State University. In 1980, he retired as Vice President and taught Political Science Courses at USU for another 10 years. He was active in politics and was a member of the Logan City Council for 12 years.

Frances was an elementary and secondary teacher and was selected as Utah Mother and American Mother of the Year in 1979-1980. She was a member and leader in USU Faculty Women’s League and International Friends Program. Frances and Claude enjoyed attending the cultural and athletic events held at USU. They held numerous positions in the LDS church and served missions to Hawaii and the Logan Deseret Industries. They are members of the Old Main Society at Utah State University

All of their children graduated from USU, all of their spouses attended USU and 23 grandchildren have or are attending USU.
