Aggie Cat Services
What is Aggie Cat Services?
Aggie Cat Services is a group of volunteers from the campus community working to control the number of feral cats on campus. We follow a national TNRM model (Trap-Neuter-Return-Maintain) and establish feeding stations to ensure the cats have access to food and water every day and to monitor their health.
What is a Feral Cat?
A feral cat is an un-socialized cat. Either it was born outside and had never lived with humans, or it is a house cat that has strayed from home and over time has thrown off the effects of domestication and reverted to a wild state. Feral cats avoid human contact. Adult feral cats usually cannot be socialized and are most content living outside.
Why TNRM Works
TNRM works because the breeding stops. Populations are gradually reduced over time.
Trapped cats are “fixed” and vaccinated for rabies. They also have the tip of their right ear snipped so that volunteers can tell from a distance whether or not the cat has already been trapped.
Based on the method used by the Humane Society of the United States to calculate the birthrate of feral cats, if left unchecked, Aggie Cat Services has prevented the birth of over 9,000 kittens since it was established in 2005.
TNRM is a humane, non-lethal, method of population control and aligns with the principle of a caring community and Aggies Think, Care, Act.
Aggie Cat Services is funded strictly through donations.
