In Memory of Dr. J. Brent McKinnon

Dr. James Brent McKinnon, known in various communities and among ranchers as “Doc”, graduated from the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences emphasizing in Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences in 1967. His wife, ReNee, graduated from the USU Emma Eccles Jones College of Education in 1966. After graduation, they traveled to Colorado State University for vet school where Doc graduated at the top of his class. Doc and ReNee started Bear River Animal Hospital in Tremonton, Utah, and covered Box Elder, Cache, Rich and Weber counties in Utah, as well as many areas into Idaho and Wyoming. Doc and ReNee are passionate about agriculture and have served in leadership positions in the Utah Cattleman and Cattlewoman Associations.  

Today, many USU students seeking their DVM identify Doc McKinnon as their biggest influence in becoming a veterinarian. Doc and ReNee say they had the pleasure of working with the finest people on the earth.  Not only did they care about the animals, but they truly loved the people they helped.  However, any who have crossed their path, will say they have never met more honest, hard-working, and incredibly genuine people such as Doc and Renee.  Doc and ReNee have established a scholarship endowment in the School of Veterinary Medicine at USU to provide financial support for students who are pursuing a degree with a strong interest in bovine medicine. Thank you for contributing to the legacy of Dr. McKinnon. Donations in memory of Doc McKinnon will be added to the Dr. J. Brent and ReNee McKinnon Scholarship Endowment.
