USU Students Rally Against Budget Cuts

Hundreds of Utah State University students gathered in the Taggart Student Center during lunchtime, Jan. 28, to rally against the proposed budget cuts from the Utah Legislature and to hear from USU President Stan L. Albrecht.

Albrecht encouraged students to write to their legislators in advance of a rally Friday, Jan. 30, at 10:30 a.m. in the courtyard at the Utah State Capital in Salt Lake City. He emphasized the importance of communicating with legislators, letting them know how the proposed budget cuts could negatively impact their educational opportunities.

Buses will depart Friday, Jan. 30, from the University Inn at 8 a.m. to go to Salt Lake City. Students are encouraged to sign up to ride the busses at the information station in the basement of the Taggart Student Center or carpool with fellow students.

In preparation for the rally in Salt Lake City, there is a pre-rally party Thursday, Jan. 29, in the Taggart Student Center basement. Students attending the party can make signs, write their legislators, listen to live music and eat free cookies.
