Meet regulary one-on-one with a TRIO SSS team member to discuss how classes and school are going. Assistance with time management, academic accountability, test-preparation, learning methods, study skills, etc. Team members are available to meet with you as you need.
Stat 1045 - Introduction to Statistics with Algebra Course
(TRIO SSS-section)
Face-to-Face | Small Class Size (15 Students)
Lecture & recitations are combined into single class (so no need to register for separate recitation). The Fall 2024 TRIO SSS-section meets 5 days weekly:
MWF 1:30-2:20 & TR 1:30-2:45

This class satisfies the University's quantitative literacy (QL) requirement.
Prerequisites - One of the following within the last year or three consecutive semesters (including summer): ACT Math score of 16 or higher or equivalent SAT Math score, Grade of C- or better in MATH 0950 (a passing grade of P is acceptable), or satisfactory score on the MATH Placement Exam
Math 0995 - College Math Prep Course (TRIO SSS-section)

This 3–credit course is designed to help students acquire the necessary skills for having a successful college experience. Students analyze their current academic and personal skills and determine the areas in which they would benefit from changes. A combination of in–class activities and outside readings present strategies such as effective reading, note taking, problem solving, and test taking. Students experience "learning by doing" through application of these strategies in other academic courses.
Academic Planning / Success Advising
TRIO Student Support Services provides a student success advisor who works in addition to the major advisor assigned through the academic departments. The TRIO SSS advisor meets with students to assess and develop educational plans, review academic progress, and provide academic and morale support. The TRIO SSS advisor is a great resource for up–to–date information regarding university policies and procedures, educational programs, and campus and community resources.
Course Selection & Registration Assistance
Assistance with selecting appropriate courses and enrolling through the registration system is available. Students will be able to make informed decisions regarding their class registration after considering prerequisites, university study requirements, degree requirements, class schedules, and a good balance of course work.
Connecting with Career Resources and Career Inventories (Strenghts, Interests)
TRIO SSS works in conjuctions with USU Career Design Center and USU Exploratory Adivising to provide assistance to provide and connect students to resources available to choose a major and make career decisions considering their interests, talents, and resources. Free career inventories (MBTI, Strenghts, and Interests) are made available to TRIO participants.
Assistance with Graduate/ Professional School Applications & Readiness
TRIO SSS provides graduate/professional school application assistance to all interested participants. One TRIO SSS team member specializes in individual meetings for this purpose with participants. TRIO SSS provides monthly activities that focus on graduate school readiness and preparations.
Academic Tutoring
Tutoring is provided to students in TRIO Student Support Services. Tutorial services are authorized and arranged by the program advisor. Tutoring may be assigned on a one–to–one basis, in small groups, or in a lab environment. Students can avoid the crowds of large labs by attending a Math Lab and Writing Lab designated for TRIO Student Support Services participants only.
USU 1020 - Personal Productivity Course

This 1–credit course is designed for students who want to improve their college time- and self-management. This course focuses on the theory and practice of effective planning, including time management, organizational skills, adult mindset, and motivation.
USU 1060 - Reading College Texts Course

This 1–credit course is designed for students who want to improve their college reading skills. Many college students possess adequate reading skills but have not learned to adapt to the demands of different academic areas – they read all assignments the same way and do not comprehend as effectively as they might. This class helps students understand and adapt reading strategies to best fit their learning needs. The philosophy of the class is that students will learn new strategies by practicing and applying them to college reading material. An emphasis is placed on reading a variety of texts – college texts, news magazines, research articles, etc.
Financial Aid, Scholarship Applications & Economic Literacy
The program staff works with the Financial Aid Office to ensure all eligible TRIO Student Support Services participants are maximizing financial aid opportunities. Workshops are held to for TRIO participants on Financial Aid, scholarship application assistance, and economic literacy.
