ASPIRE was founded in 2020 as a faculty-led National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center to address critical challenges in electrified transportation. With sustained growth and support from diverse partners, ASPIRE has expanded beyond its academic roots into a professional-staff-led nonprofit (the ASPIRE Foundation) advancing research, industry innovation, workforce development, and community partnerships to accelerate intelligent electrification and transportation.

Today, ASPIRE convenes researchers, industry leaders, educators, and communities to advance innovative solutions such as wireless power transfer and grid-integrated charging systems—making transportation cleaner, more efficient, and more accessible while preparing the workforce to deploy these technologies.
