Scholarship Endowment

Harold James Hansen was born in 1912 in Elsinore, Utah.  He was an outstanding all-around athlete at South Sevier High School in Monroe, Utah. He attended Weber State College where he played football, basketball and pole vaulted on the track team.  He was the Junior College conference champion vaulter (using a bamboo pole) in 1932. He transferred to the then Utah State Agricultural College and played on the varsity basketball and track teams for three years under the legendary Aggie coach E.L. Dick Romney. This was during the time of the two-handed set shot and between the knees underhanded foul shot.  Home games were played in the Smart Gym and a typical game score was Aggies 24, Utes 19. The 1934-35 Aggies were Mountain State Conference Champions.  He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and graduated with a degree in Business in 1935.

Harold credited his experience as a student athlete at Utah State for his many lifelong friends and successful career.  After serving in WWII he returned to Richfield, Utah where he raised his family.  His Aggie legacy includes; a brother, two sons, a daughter, grandson, nieces and nephews all proud Utah State Aggies.

To honor Harold, his family has established the Harold J. Hansen Men’s Basketball Endowed Scholarship at Utah State University.  The scholarship benefits student-athletes who participate in USU Men’s Basketball.
