Burr and Jean Eldredge
Memorial Scholarship Endowment

The Burr and Jean Eldredge Memorial Scholarship Endowment has been created by the children of Burr and Jean Eldredge in honor of their dedication and lifelong service in educating children both in and out of the classroom.

Burr was born in rural Utah in humble surroundings.  He enjoyed participating in sports during his school years.  As World War II raged, he enlisted in the Army and re-enlisted during the occupation of Germany.  Because of his service and the GI Bill, Burr attended and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in physical education.

Jean was born in Massachusetts. Her family moved to London when she was 8 years old but soon returned to Massachusetts because of the war. She enjoyed sports and played field hockey and basketball in high school. Upon graduation, she attended BYU and graduated with a degree in Home economics.

It was at BYU where Burr and Jean met and married in 1950. After graduating from BYU in 1952, they moved to Roosevelt Utah where Burr began his career teaching and coaching at Roosevelt Junior High School.

Burr and Jean often spent their summers in Logan with Burr attending coaching clinics and career development programs, and Jean continuing her education at Utah State University (USU). Jean earned her teaching certification in elementary education in 1958.  Eventually, Jean earned her Master of Education degree at USU in 1973.  They both continued to teach in Roosevelt until retirement in 1987.

Burr and Jean raised six children, several of whom have attended USU and pursued careers in teaching.  They have 25 grandchildren and 42 (and counting) great-grandchildren.  Family always came first for them. They also had a great love of travel and were able to see much of the world. They both had a passion for sports, and many family events were planned around game schedules. But they were also content to be at the side of a lake, Burr with his fishing pole and Jean reading a book.

The endowment provides scholarships for USU students majoring in special education, rehabilitation and counseling.
