In Loving Memory of Helen B. Cannon

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a cherished member of our university community, Helen B. Cannon. Helen's time at Utah State University was marked by her deep passion for teaching and her unwavering commitment to her students.

Helen began her journey at Utah State as a graduate instructor in 1987, dedicating over 13 years to the English Department. Through innovative approaches, such as incorporating the renowned "New Yorker" magazine into her courses, Helen inspired her students to explore the realms of literature and writing with fervor and enthusiasm.

She was known for her dedication to her students, treating them as equal partners in their academic endeavors. Through her tireless efforts, she left an enduring impact on countless lives, instilling in them a love for learning that transcended the classroom.

Beyond teaching, Helen and her husband Larry generously supported various university initiatives, including the establishment of the Helen B. Cannon and Dr. Lawrence O. Cannon Scholarships in the Honors Program at USU. Their contributions reflected their commitment to fostering academic excellence and opportunity for future generations.

Outside of academia, Helen found joy in the beauty of Cache Valley, where she enjoyed activities like hiking and cross-country skiing. Yet, her greatest joy was found in the simple pleasure of reading, both alone and with her beloved Larry.

Helen's legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the impact she made on our university community. May her spirit continue to inspire us all.
