Dale W. and Adele C. Young Teaching Greenhouse

An agriculturalist, Dale W. Young has made his mark in the world and at home. He earned both a bachelor’s in 1942, and master’s in 1948, from Utah State University in agronomy, before completing a doctorate in chemistry and plant physiology from Iowa State University in 1953. Dale worked in agricultural chemical research, traveling the country and the world through employment with the federal government and various chemical companies.

Throughout his career, Dale discovered and developed new chemicals to control insects, weeds and plant diseases. The Texas Chamber of Commerce honored him as an Outstanding Young Texan in 1951 for developing chemicals to control mesquite, a weed tree.

Dale was a major supporter of the construction of USU’s teaching greenhouse, named in honor of him and his wife, Adele, in 2000.
