LaRee & LeGrand Softball Field

LaRee (1911-2011) and LeGrand (1906-1973) Softball Field

LaRee Kesler Johnson was born in 1911, in Cove Fort, Utah. Her early years were split between Fillmore, Utah, and the family farm at Cove Fort. LaRee attended college in Cedar City, Utah. LeGrand was born in 1906 in Newton, Cache County, Utah.

LaRee married LeGrand on January 30, 1934, in Preston, Idaho. Together, they began Johnson Sand & Gravel in 1935, later to be known as LeGrand Johnson Construction Company. As the years progressed, the company grew to provide ready-mixed concrete, highway construction and asphalt paving, and sand and gravel materials. LeGrand Johnson Construction works in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada.

One of LaRee’s greatest pleasures was providing employment to men and women in the Cache Valley area. She often commented that the business was a success because of the teamwork of the employees whom she regarded as family. After LeGrand’s death in 1973, LaRee was bound and determined to continue the business. She expanded with a construction operation in
Moab, Utah.
