As a young girl growing up in Idaho, Kristen Kator understood the importance of education and the opportunities it provides. She attended Utah State with the help of a university scholarship, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Even as a top student she struggled to find ways to pay for tuition. When Kristen discovered her Graphic Design program didn’t offer scholarships, she determined that once she had established a career, she would help future design students find a way to pay for their education.
Now a design lead at Samsung, the Caine College of the Arts graduate believes the skills and knowledge gained at USU have given her the ability to build a design career she's proud of. The KP Andreasen Endowment for Graphic Design marks the completion of a long-held goal of hers to provide financial opportunities for USU students who share a similar story.
The endowment bears the name of her great, great uncle Kristian Peter Andreasen, a photographer and educator in the early 1900s. His love of the arts has since passed through generations of Kristen’s family, including her grandmother who shared this artistic passion and encouraged Kristen to pursue a career in design. "This financial gift would make her proud," Kristen said. "I hope to share her inspiration and appreciation for the arts with students of USU through this endowed scholarship."
